Slow Hours premieres at MIFF

Slow Hours, a short documentary I scored with director Theo McMahon, had its world premiere at the Melbourne International Film Festival.

Very happy to say that Slow Hours, a short documentary I scored with director Theo McMahon, had its world premiere at the Melbourne International Film Festival on 19 August at ACMI, as part of the Sovereign Shorts program. The film follows Amelia Austin, a young Indigenous teenager finding her place within an intergenerational fight for sovereignty as Victoria’s Treaty process gathers momentum. It screened again at Cinema Nova and in Healesville, Castlemaine and Ballarat, and is streaming on MIFF Online until 30 August.

Tahiti, 1903. The doctor and poet Victor Segalen leaves France for Hiva Oa hoping to meet Paul Gauguin. But upon arrival, he discovers that the painter has just died. Inspired by Segalen's own writings, Longe da estrada is a reflection on Gauguin's legacy and contradictions, and on the fraught relationship between colonizers and the colonized.
