Residual - Dũng Nguyen and Peter Knight

Mini residency at Nexus Arts in Adelaide culminating in a concert by Residual, which is the duo project of long-time collaborators Dũng Nguyen (Sydney/Vietnam) and Peter Knight (Melbourne). This concert will also include a collaborative set with santur virtuoso, Maryam Ramani.

Residual explores groundbreaking Vietnamese-Western fusion through extended techniques & electroacoustic composition, creating music that transcends boundaries.

Dũng and Peter’s partnership spans over 2 decades, beginning with sextet Way Out West, which released 4 albums, toured internationally to festivals including Montreal, Vancouver, Takatsuki (Japan), and Veneto (Italy), winning the Bell Jazz Award and recognition as one of Australia’s most successful jazz exports.

Recent work  ‘1988’, exploring Dũng’s migration story, premiered at The Substation (2022) with Australian Art Orchestra, and earned standing ovations at OzAsia Festival (2023), with 5-star reviews: “unique and exquisite music, brilliantly arranged” (Limelight) & “faultless show with multicultural harmony message”(InDaily). Their 2011 album Residual, released on Belgium’s  Parentheses Records, received acclaim: “Falling into an utterly genre-less wormhole” (Cyclic Defrost).
